The distance from the surface of the soil to the placement of the seed for sowing purposes in the soil is known as sowing depth.

Soil depth is directly proportional to soil water content (increase in depth = increase in water content) where as indirectly proportional to soil temperature (increase in depth = decrease in soil temperature).
